After a devastating breakup, the only place 23-year-old Jeanne has to stay in Paris is the small flat belonging to her father, Gilles. But when Jeanne arrives, utterly broken-hearted, she finds her father living with a new girlfriend her own age: Arianne. Both young women are looking for their own kind of love in a city filled with possibilities.

Philippe Garrel (1948) is a French director, cinematographer, screenwriter, film editor and producer, associated with New Wave movement. His films have won him awards at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. The younger Garrel became interested in film and started his career early, influenced by the new work of Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut. At the age of 16, Garrel wrote and directed his first short film. In 1982, Garrel won the Prix Jean Vigo for the film L'Enfant Secret. He won Perspectives du Cinéma Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984 for his 1983 film Liberté, la nuit. In 1991, he won a Silver Lion for his film J'entends Plus la Guitare, which was nominated for a Golden Lion. Le vent de la nuit was nominated for a Golden Lion in 1999. Two years later, Sauvage Innocence was nominated for a Golden Lion and won the FIPRESCI Prize. His 2005 film, Les Amants Réguliers, won him the Silver Lion, for Best Director.
That luminous monochrome cinematography is undoubtedly nostalgic, but the characters within it are full-colour, 21st century and utterly alive.
