Broke, with nothing but her cat to her name and doors closing in her face, Paula is back in Paris after a long absence. As she meets different people along the way, there is one thing she knows for sure: she’s determined to make a new start and she’ll do it with style and panache.

Léonor Serraille (born in 1986) studied at La Fémis, French state film school, graduating from the screenwriting department. Prior to this, she gained her master’s degree in General and Comparative Literature from the University Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle.

It is clear that Serraille has made a portrait of a very specific individual but that she’s also saying something more general about her own generation. The thirthysomethings of the Occident have arguably had to fight less for things such as access to higher education and the freedom to travel around the world and are able to delay settling down for a decade or more compared to their parents.
