Hitler's Hollywood tells for the first time of the darkest and most dramatic period of German film history. Over 1000 feature films were produced in Germany between 1933 and 1945. Very few were openly Nazi propaganda. But even fewer could be considered harmless entertainment. National Socialist cinema was a state-run, heavily censored industry. At the same time it wanted to be "big cinema." A German dream factory.

Rüdiger Suchsland studied History, Philosophy and Political Science. He lives in Berlin and works as a journalist, writer and cultural activist. Primarily a regular contributor and critic for print, radio and internet, he is also a speaker, instructor and author on the thematic subjects of film, theory, East Asia, zeitgeist and popular culture. He is a curator in the team of the film-festivals in Mannheim-Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen. Together with Josef Schnelle, he co-authored the book Zeichen und Wunder: Das Kino von Zhang Yimou und Wong Kar-Wai (2008). He switched sides for his documentary debut From Caligari to Hitler. Hitler’s Hollywood is his latest documentary feature.
